Walled witnesses of time
The most beautiful castles in and around Andernach
Architecture. Tangible history. Centuries old. Old castles and palaces always have a unique atmosphere. Whether a proud fortress or a mystical ruin. Around the centrally located Parkhotel Andernach you will find numerous buildings worth seeing. Impressive witnesses of time.
The town castle of Andernach. Built in the 12th century. It is one of the best-preserved castle ruins on the Middle Rhine. Its shell is scarred. Its core is stable. A popular place. In the middle of Andernach. The town castle regularly provides the backdrop for the Bäckerjungenfest (baker's boy festival) and the medieval Halunkenmarkt (scoundrel market). It is hard to imagine the townscape without it.
Namedy Castle. Built as a moated castle. Completed as a baroque castle. A place of rest. Directly on the Rhine cycle path. The castle is privately owned by the Hohenzollern family. Among other things, it serves as a venue for events.
The ruins of Hammerstein Castle. Visible from afar. On the summit of the Hammersteiner Ley. Heavily decayed and yet so impressive. It is considered one of the oldest castles on the Middle Rhine. Only the substructure of a ring wall and the remains of the customs tower are preserved today. A beautiful place to stay.
